This page explains how Copper N’ Lead ships your order, where we can ship, and what to expect. In short, our ammo shipping policy is simple: fast processing, UPS Ground delivery and full compliance with state laws.
Order Processing Time
We ship most orders within 1 to 3 business days. However, orders placed on a weekend or holiday may take up to 3 business days to leave our warehouse. Once your order ships, you’ll receive tracking information by email.
Carrier
We ship every order by UPS Ground, the standard way to ship ammunition safely and legally. Delivery time depends on your distance from our Miami, Florida location.
Shipping Costs
Shipping is priced by region and by weight, and you’ll see your exact cost at checkout before you pay. Each region has a flat UPS Ground rate that covers orders up to a set weight. Heavier orders, like bulk cases, add a small charge per pound over that weight.

When your order reaches the free base shipping amount for your region, the flat rate is waived. Orders under the included weight then ship free, and heavier orders pay only the per-pound charge.
Where We Ship: Our Ammo Shipping Policy by State
We ship within the lower 48 states. However, some states and cities limit how ammunition and reloading components can be sold or delivered. So before you order, please check the rules for your state below.
Places we cannot ship to
- Alaska and Hawaii: UPS Ground can’t carry ammunition there from our warehouse.
- California: state law requires ammunition to go through a licensed California ammunition vendor.
- New York: state law requires delivery through a licensed dealer or registered seller of ammunition.
- Massachusetts: state law requires ammunition sellers to hold a Massachusetts license.
- Washington, DC: ammunition and components are limited to holders of a DC firearm registration certificate.
- Chicago and Cook County, Illinois.
States that need documents before we ship
For these states, your order will be placed on hold. Simply email copies of the documents below to mbascombe@coppernlead.com. Once we verify them, we’ll ship your order.
- Illinois: a valid FOID card or Illinois concealed carry license, plus your Illinois driver’s license or state ID. We ship only to the address on those documents.
- New Jersey: a Firearms Purchaser ID card, handgun purchase permit, or permit to carry, plus a government-issued photo ID. You must be 21 or older.
- Connecticut: a Connecticut ammunition certificate, pistol permit, or handgun or long gun eligibility certificate, plus a government-issued photo ID.
- Rhode Island: a Rhode Island pistol/revolver safety certificate (blue card) or Rhode Island hunter education card, plus a government-issued photo ID. You must be 21 or older.
States with age and delivery rules
- Colorado: you must be 21 or older (rimfire excepted). In addition, an adult 21 or older must show ID and sign for the delivery, and we review each Colorado order before it ships.
- Delaware: you must be 21 or older to buy rifle or handgun ammunition.
Laws change often, and some cities and counties add their own rules. Therefore, it’s your responsibility to make sure you can legally buy and own ammunition where you live. If an order can’t legally ship to you, we’ll cancel it and issue a refund.
Age Requirement
Under federal law, you must be at least 18 to buy rifle or shotgun ammunition and at least 21 to buy handgun ammunition. Some states set higher limits, as listed above. By placing an order, you confirm that you meet all federal, state and local requirements.
Shipping Protection
At checkout, you can add optional Shipping Protection for 3% of your order’s item total (minimum $2.95). If a protected order is lost, stolen or damaged in transit, we’ll make it right. Shipping Protection can only be added at checkout, before your order ships.
What it covers
- Packages lost in transit, as shown by carrier tracking.
- Packages marked delivered but not received.
- Items damaged in transit.
How to file a claim
- Report it within 7 days of the delivery date. For packages that never arrive, report it within 7 days after tracking stops updating. Email mbascombe@coppernlead.com with your order number.
- Damaged items: include photos of the shipping box, the packaging and the damaged items. Please keep all packaging until your claim is resolved.
- Delivered but not received: first wait 48 hours, then check with neighbors, building staff and anywhere a package could be left. After that, contact us and we’ll open a claim with UPS.
Claim rules
- We reship your items first. If an item is out of stock, we refund its price instead.
- Each customer and shipping address is limited to one “delivered but not received” claim per 12 months. Additional claims are reviewed case by case and may be denied.
- Protection covers only the address entered at checkout. Changing the address after you order voids it, unless we approve the change in writing.
- Shipping Protection is non-refundable once your order ships, and it doesn’t cover orders that can’t legally ship to your address.
- We may require carrier documentation or a signed statement for any claim. Furthermore, claims we find to be fraudulent will be denied.
Orders without Shipping Protection that are lost or damaged in transit are handled case by case. In those cases, we’ll file a claim with UPS for you, and any refund depends on the outcome of that claim.
Returns Policy
For safety reasons, all sales of ammunition and reloading components are final. We do not accept returns on these items. Because of this, please double-check your caliber, bullet weight and quantity before you place your order.
If your order arrives damaged or doesn’t match what you ordered, contact us right away so we can look into it. For lost or damaged packages, see Shipping Protection above.
